How It Works

Basic guidance for common transfer scenarios.

1 Deposit XRP

  1. Get the XRP deposit address and destination tag from your wallet interface.
  2. Send XRP on XRPL to that address and include the destination tag.
  3. After processing, the corresponding balance will appear on Stellar.

2 Withdraw XRP

  1. Enter the destination XRP address in your wallet.
  2. Fill in the destination tag if the receiving platform requires it.
  3. Review the amount and fee, then submit the withdrawal.
For destination tags, fee rules, edge cases, and traceability details, see the FAQ below.

Details & FAQ

General

What is the anchor service?

The Anchor service is a bridge connecting the Stellar network with other blockchains. It allows users to convert other crypto assets or tokens into digital assets on the Stellar network, and vice versa.

Which networks does this service connect?

This service connects the Stellar network and the XRP Ledger (XRPL), allowing seamless transfer of XRP between the two networks.

How long does a transfer take?

While the underlying blockchain ledgers close in seconds, the actual business processing time for transfers typically takes a few minutes.

Fees & Usage

What are the exact service fees?

Entering the Stellar network is free of charge.

For withdrawals back to the Ripple network, the fee is 0.1% (or 1‰), plus a fixed fee of 0.01 XRP.

When is the fixed fee waived?

If you withdraw an amount greater than 10 XRP in whole numbers, we will waive the 0.01 XRP fee to make it easier for you to calculate!

Is there a minimum withdrawal amount?

If you are withdrawing to a newly created XRPL address, please ensure you withdraw 2 or more XRP to meet the Ripple network's reserve requirements.

Do I need a destination tag?

For deposits, yes — the destination tag is required.
The service uses the destination tag to identify your account. If the destination tag is missing or incorrect, the transfer may not be credited correctly and assets may be lost.

For withdrawals, use a destination tag only if the receiving wallet, exchange, or platform requires it.
If the receiving side provides a destination tag, enter it exactly as given.

What should I enter in Dest Extra?

If the receiving platform requires a Destination Tag (DT), enter it in the "Dest Extra" field during withdrawal.

What happens if destination information is incorrect?

If you enter the wrong address or forget a required destination tag, your funds may be lost. Always double-check the destination details before confirming a transaction.

Traceability

How can I trace an inbound transfer?

Incoming Stellar transactions will have a hash memo (e.g., "cc3037c5...bb6da48e"). This memo contains the original transaction hash from the Ripple network.

How can I trace an outbound transfer?

Outgoing Ripple transactions will have a memo (e.g., "Stellar: 198514659732553729"). This memo contains the original Stellar network operation ID.

What does the memo/reference mean?

The memo or reference links the transfer on one network to the related transaction or operation on the other network. This helps users trace how a transfer was processed.

Which explorers should I use?

You can use Stellar Expert (stellar.expert) for Stellar transactions and XRP Explorer (xrplexplorer.com) or Bithomp for XRPL transactions.
